Run Famous. Run Miami. It's a celebrity experience! Run through a tunnel of a thousand fans, experience ING Cheering Zones and Community Fun Zones, and over 30 entertainment spots with mascots, dancers, bands and special guest celebrities. The course features great support with 24 aid stations (12 on the half) featuring doctors, nurses, and health care professionals from UHealth - University of Miami Health System, water and Gatorade® Endurance Formula. Every finisher gets the Spinning Palm Finisher Medal complete with artistic ribbon and the famous "Spinning Palm." Celebrate with thousands at our Post Race Festival with live music, food, drinks and age group awards going 5 deep for 13 age groups in the marathon and 14 age groups in the half.

The last weekend in January is filled with events brought to you by US Road Sports & Entertainment of Florida, formerly PR Racing Miami and this event is sure to add to the exciting line-up of happenings. Introducing… The Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida Tropical 5K Benefiting Community Partnership for Homeless. This race will serve as a sneak preview and warm-up for those running the ING Miami Marathon and Half Marathon. Friends and family not running the Marathon or Half Marathon will also be able to share in the inspiring ING Miami Marathon Weekend experience.

 Why is this 5K (3.1 mile) run/walk unique?
The COURSE, the COURSE and the COURSE! This race will feature a point-to-point format. The race will begin slightly east of Watson Island on the MacArthur Causeway and head east to Miami Beach’s Alton Road and end at South Point Park adjacent to Ocean Drive. By the way, you’ll be taken back to your cars on Watson Island using one of the many shuttles operating all morning long.

Why should you participate?

Well, besides being a part of the excitement of ING Miami Marathon Weekend, the most important reason is that you’ll be helping the community. You’ll be “Running for the Homeless”! The Tropical 5K will benefit the Community Partnership for Homeless.

 Weather Conditions:
The time period selected for the 5K is historically among Miami’s driest and coolest time of the year. Nevertheless, this is Miami and any weather is possible, we recommend that you plan and prepare for unfavorable conditions. The majority of the 5K course is run through un-shaded areas, be aware that this will lead to exposure to Miami’s famous Sun.

5K Timing and Scoring:

  • The Tropical 5K Benefiting Community Partnership for Homeless will use the NEW ChronoTrack D-Tag timing system. Timing and scoring will be provided by Split Second Timing.
  • Participants MUST wear their ChronoTrack D-Tag. No tag, NO TIME.
  • The ChronoTrack D-Tag will only work for the race you signed up for. ING Miami Marathon and Half Marathon tags will NOT work for the 5K.
